WHILE the first weekly concert of Akademi Fantasia tonight is unlikely to see anyone eliminated, there still might just be a surprise or two. Speculation is rife that any of the eight eliminated in the preliminary round may just gain entry to AF.
Twelve were given the nod but there was quite an the uproar when a couple of the crowd’s favourites failed to make the cut.
Whatever it is, the first concert will serve as a yardstick to gauge if the programme will remain as the most popular local reality TV talent search show.
The 12 AF students will be belting out their song #BAIK#ignments as well as the ever recognisable theme song of Munuju Puncak at the Stadium Malawati Shah Alam tonight.
The songs to be performed are as follows: Reza – Roman Picisan (Dewa), Ekin – Erti Cinta (Maya Karin), Yazer – Ready For Love (Bad Company), Elliza – Elergi Sepi (Azaharina), Felix – Tiada Lagi Kidungmu (Lefthanded), Amy – Fallin’ (Alicia Keys), Aidil – S.O.T (Rem), Idayu – Percayalah (Siti Nurhaliza), Kefli – Nur Kasih (Slam), Amylea – Inikah Cinta (Sheila Majid), Fuad – Pop Yeh Yeh (V.E) and Akma – Nazam Berkasih (Syura).
However, for those who may have missed the first week of the daily Diari Akademi Fantasia here’s a recap of what you should know about the school.
And oh, if there is an elimination tonight, expect Akma, Aidil or Kefli to bite the dust, based on viewer sentiments.

Located at The LakeHomes Bungalows, The Mines South Lake, in the Mines Resort City, the Akademi Fantasia ‘campus’ is made up of three bungalows.
One is the main teaching facility, while the lads get another to themselves, as do the ladies.
The interior of the school has an edgy contemporary look – bold, bright and colourful with purple and vermilion, the theme colours of Akademi Fantasia, dominating.
On the ground floor are four main areas, all monitored by two remote as well as 12 hidden cameras behind two-way mirrors.
The dining area, the kitchen and the dance studio where choreography and image lessons will be conducted, will be familiar to fans.
New this year is the Aktifkan! room – the living room basically – in the colours of the main sponsor of the programme, Hotlink.
On the first floor of the bungalow are the principal’s room and the vocal studio.
Spread out between both floors are more lounging spaces here and there with exercise bikes and even massage chairs.
The boys’ hostel is a RM5 million bungalow with a Mediterranean look and feel.
The girls’ have a more Oriental theme. Throw in tons of costly furnishing, thanks to sponsors like Urban Culture, Haus Living Concept, Trust Lighting and Fella Design, electrical products from Pensonic, AOWA, Lebenstil Collection and Princess as well as kitchenware from Giacomo, the hostels are like mini resorts complete with swimming pools and indoor jacuzzis!
The kids are also provided with L’Oreal’s Hair and Makeup kits, herbal products from Sendayu Tinggi, bird’s nest restoratives from Power Nest, and even Tiger Balm.
They also have two official cars from Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd in the event they might need transportation.
Everything from their meals to snacks and medical aid is looked after. Even a daily laundry service is provided.
With a RM1,500 allowance given to each student for every month spent in the facility, the only ‘torture’ would be the lack of contact with the outside world.
No access to phones, outside television broadcasts, computers, newspapers, or magazines.
This is to ensure that they focus entirely on improving their skills as entertainers. The only menial task they have to deal with is keeping their hostels clean.
The students will have time off and be sent (under tight security to ensure no communication with the outside world) to their respective places of worship for their religious obligations.
After the Konsert Prelude Akademi Fantasia pre-elimination rounds, programming remains pretty much the same with the opening Tirai Akademi Fantasia aired over the last two weekends to mainly plug sponsors, the daily Diari Akademi Fantasia, the weekly live telecast of the Konsert Akademi Fantasia, as well as Imbasan Akademi Fantasia for overviews. Only this time, we understand the Imbasan will be shown right after the concert itself rather than the next day.
Voting has been extended beyond the SMS method of previous years, and will incorporate use of fixed line numbers, as well as the R button on the Astro remote control.
Fans who want more can subscribe to the Akademi Fantasia Xtra broadband service for round the clock viewing of the programme’s archives as well as a real time glimpse of what goes on in the Akademi.
Then there’s AKSI Akademi Fantasia, the magazine dedicated to everything that makes the programme. Featuring exclusive shots from the Akademi, it’s more of a collector’s item for fans.
PRIZE FOR THE TOP GRADUATE
It’s a spanking increase compared to the previous season. The champ carts away a whopping RM250,000 worth of prizes.
